Our Offerings:
Forensic Survey Inspections
We conduct incredibly thorough inspections of vessels ranging from 20 to 50+ feet. Our goal is to empower our clients with greater clarity and peace of mind through our accurate in-depth assessments of vessel condition, equipage, state of readiness, and market value at a given point in time.
Next-Day Video Debriefs
Included in our survey offerings is a personal, 1-on-1 Video Debrief with surveyor, Drew Maglio, to discuss preliminary Forensic Survey Inspection findings, conducted within a day of the last on-site service. We have found that the Video Debrief gives our clients an immediate opportunity to clarify and discuss the vessel, in order to ensure that it is up to par, meriting a full survey report.
Survey Reports
Our Survey Reports are the polished extension of the Forensic Survey Inspection and subsequent Video Debrief. Our Survey Reports are a cut above industry standards - created with our proprietary in-house report writing software. Survey Reports are generally delivered within a week of the survey.
Boat Owner Training
We offer three types of training services to our clients. Owner On-Boarding is designed to help you become familiar with your new boat - its systems and basic operating procedures. On-Water Training is designed to apply the lessons taught in Owner On-Boarding in waters local to you, and generally covers basic navigation, docking and anchoring procedures, as well as general operational considerations. Maintenance Training is designed to help you learn to captain your vessel and become a competent DIY boat owner.

About the Owners
Capital Marine Surveying is owned and operated by Drew and Hannah Maglio. Drew Maglio AssocIIMS, is an IIMS Associate Surveyor and ABYC Certified Advisor. An avid boater and sailor, he turned his lifelong passion into a profession in 2021 when he founded Capital Boat Works, a marine repair and maintenance company in Annapolis that also offered training, advisory services, and vessel inspections. Capital Marine Surveying is the natural evolution of his earlier work—focusing on the parts of the work he loves most: inspecting boats, helping clients find excellent vessels, and equipping them to become confident, capable boaters.
Drew is also a published boating writer whose work has appeared in a wide range of boating and sailing magazines. His love of clear writing and teaching was nurtured through two Great Books programs, culminating in a Master’s degree from St. John’s College.
Hannah manages the administrative and creative sides of the business. She has embraced life on the water alongside Drew, especially during their Great Lakes trips aboard their Chaparral 2550 SX cuddy cabin, Soul Rebel. She is particularly looking forward to learning to sail on the Chesapeake once they complete the refit of their newly acquired Hunter Legend 37.5 monohull sailboat.
